EAA Young Eagles Flight

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) has a special program called Young Eagles. It was “launched in 1992 to give interested young people, ages 8 – 17, an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane. Since 1992, more than 1.6 million Young Eagles have enjoyed a flight through the program. Young Eagles have been registered in more than 90 different countries and have been flown by more than 42,000 volunteer pilots.”

On February 18, 2012, I provided flights to 4 middle school students who participate in my aviation club at the school I work at. This was my first time participating in the Young Eagles program and it was truly a great experience. Many youth are interested in aviation and this is a great way to help encourage them to pursue various careers in aviation or at least open their eyes to the possibilities of general aviation. These young adults were extremely excited and thankful for their first airplane ride.
