Flabob: KRIR

Flabob Airport is located in Rubidoux, Ca. Founded in 1925, it is California’s seventh oldest surviving airport. It is home to Chapter 1 of the Experimental Aircraft Association and a haven for home aircraft builders and antiquers. The location of Flabob Airport is unique for a couple different reasons. First, it is at the northeast end of Riverside Municipal’s airspace and on the southeast edge of Ontario International’s airspace thus almost always requires contacting Air Traffic Control to get to the uncontrolled Flabob airport. Secondly, Mount Rubidoux sits nice and high at the normal location where the turn from downwind to base would be made, forcing a shortened pattern or a trip around the mount. After a couple failed attempts, I elected for the from “out of town” approach.
