Palm Springs is a controlled Class D airport. It serves both general and commercial aviation and, because of the high volume of traffic and close proximity to the San Jacinto mountains and the Banning Pass, it is one of the few Class D airports that has a Terminal Radar Service Area (TRSA). The purpose of TRSA is to provide IFR and VFR aircraft with benefits, such as traffic advisories, separation, and vectoring from Air Traffic Control.
